Comedians Jim Gaffigan, Mike Birbiglia, and John Mulaney teamed up in January to raise $1 million to support first-generation students attending Georgetown University. All three comedians are Georgetown alumni, and proceeds from their sold-out show at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, “Stand Up for Georgetown,” will directly benefit the Georgetown Scholars Program (GSP).
Since 2004, GSP has served more than 1,600 Georgetown University students. GSP currently provides programmatic support to more than 650 undergraduates, many of whom are first-generation college students or students from under-resourced high schools. GSP students have a 96 percent graduation rate.
“For a program that relies on philanthropy, the money raised from this event is so helpful,” said GSP director Missy Foy. “The comedians prioritized the inclusion of students and removed cost as a barrier. I’d have to say the high point of the evening was having so many GSP students and young alumni present.”
